One of the first things we were advised to do in our house survey was to replace the roof as it was coming up to the end of its life span. We decided to use Platinum Roofing who are currently working on it as we speak.
So far they have taken half of the tiles off the back of the house and I am so glad that they haven’t taken all of them yet as it’s so cold! The wind and rain are lashing at us (it only ever rains in South Wales it seems!) and the house is struggling with the lack of tiles. The heating already will not climb past 19C due to solid stone walls and we can’t have the insulation topped up in the attic until the new roof and solar panels have been installed. Given what’s already there, It doesn’t need too much topping up but I certainly notice the difference coming from a new build property which was energy efficient.
Our current concern is that whilst new felt and battens have been installed, they are open to the elements and there are gaps between work days due to rain so whilst they are unable to work, we have an open roof that’s open to the elements.
The scaffolders installed scaffolding on the back of the house on 4th January though they are yet to return to erect scaffolding on the front. This means that when the roofers arrived on the 9th they had to work on the rear of the property. The roofers are reliant on the scaffolders so we are assuming that the scaffolders are returning on the 12th when the roofers return. With a solar installation due 18th January, we are panicking as that only leaves 4 full days (excluding weekend) to get the roof finished in time.
