Opening the door of Steepfield House of the first time

Well I guess I best write our first blog post about move to ‘the valleys’!

So on Wednesday 23rd we finally completed on the purchase of Steepfield House. This was to be a simultaneous exchange and completion so it was quite nerving packing the house up into three Maxi Mover vans and racing on the M4 from Reading to Wales. It was only as we were coming off the M4 at the Newport Junction at 13:33 that we were told we had finally completed! It was then a race to meet the amazing Paula at Angelwoods to collect the keys and be given a very welcome bottle of fizz!

So I write this, it’s Sunday and we’ve had an American Fridge Freezer delivered from Currys which was a bit of drama getting into the house! But it’s in and we can finally stop relying on a cool box and a mini-fridge for milk! We has already had our spunky smart Samsung Washing machine installed Friday (ordered 5pm Thursday to very fast!) and now its just a small matter of getting our Chesterfield sofas delivered tomorrow.

So what have I learnt so far in the three days that I have been here?

  • Don’t mention Brexit! We went to one pub on Thursday night before picking up Banksy on Friday (6 hour round trip!) to find Brexit Party signs everywhere.
  • Drinks are cheaper – £3.50 a pint!
  • The roads are steep!
  • Old cottages are cold! Thankfully the plumber is arriving Monday to do a Gas Safety Check, install a nest thermostat and can then look at the radiators in the Sitting Room and the Study/Library
  • Plumbers are expensive: £150 per hour! I will have to set a stopwatch
  • Moving is the most stressful thing that has ever happened to me – and I was once homeless!

Just like this blog, there is a lot of work needed to get the house more comfortable and I will update our endeavours as we go!
